POWER CAPTCHA does not primarily differentiate between humans and bots, but essentially checks whether access is authorized. Every interaction with the application generates an encrypted code (client footprint), which POWER CAPTCHA evaluates and remembers. For further interactions, we then increase the level of difficulty of the solution, extend the response time or reject further interactions for a specified period of time. However, we protect your website even before a captcha is displayed. With the Enterprise license, you can set, among other things, that only specific security mechanisms are initially executed in the background and a captcha is only displayed after several registration or login attempts. Alternatively, you can also use only the security mechanisms in the background (no-captcha solution). Find out more about the POWER CAPTCHA functions in detail in our configuration examples. Depending on your license, you can adjust the configuration and define the security level and usability factors to protect your forms and login areas yourself. You want to protect your registration and contact forms? You can adapt the examples listed to your needs and thus define the security level yourself. The configuration options depend on your POWER CAPTCHA plan. You can make the most extensive settings with the Enterprise version. The following examples show some configuration options within the Enterprise version.
To protect your login areas from unauthorized access, you can configure POWER CAPTCHA (as part of the Enterprise plan) as follows, for example:
E.g. set a maximum of 10 login attempts within one hour and block them for 30 minutes after exceeding the limit.
With a “no-captcha” traffic monitoring and rule implementation, the transmission of data is done in the background and invisible to the user. I.e. you use the security mechanisms of POWER CAPTCHA (e.g. limitation of login attempts per hour) without a captcha being displayed.
Limit the number of allowed requests from users / bots (per website or domain). If the limit you set is exceeded, you can – depending on your strategy – trigger various follow-up actions, e.g.
The open programming allows you to make individual adjustments by your own developers. For example, you could delay requests (extending the response time of POWER CAPTCHA) or trigger a real-time alert (e.g. via e-mail).
Use POWER CAPTCHA’s e-mail authentication for barrier-free access! Simply click on the button “Access code by e-mail”. You will receive an authentication code by e-mail, which you can enter in a verification mask instead of clicking the captcha solution. Try out the feature in our demo!

What complexity should the displayed captcha have and when should the complexity be increased?
After how many interactions should a captcha be displayed? Should a lock occur after an interaction limit is reached without first displaying a captcha?
